    1. In the website usu.edu, the wind speed is measured below the roof level of the building. Does this mean that you are measuring it at a lower hight, which could be influnced by the buildings around it?

    Yes, the campus Environmental Observatory is too close to the building on the north side to get an unobstructed measurement of wind speed. Fortunately, we rarely have winds out of the North. Wind also varies with height above the ground so we typically measure wind in one place, at one height, and model the velocity at other heights and other locations.

    As you indicate, the "siting" of this station is not ideal, but it is more than 30 meters from obstructions. This is the best we could do and still have it in the center of campus where the students and faculty can all see the data being collected.
